Considering it's his first time with a spear and shield, he doesn't feel too bad about how he handles himself against Ivar. He knows the Viking would have killed him by now if he wanted to, but he's managed to react in time to both blows, and despite the dull ache of the pressure, he's far from being too tired to stop.
"Gonna be here all night, then," he comments with a faint laugh, but immediately he drops down when Ivar tells him to. He doesn't avoid the knife, of course, but the slight lift of his arm in front of him means that the blade lands on the shield rather than anywhere on him.
Holding the spear briefly in his shield hand, he plucks the knife out, holding it by the blade and lifting an eyebrow at Ivar. Then he tosses it back at him with a clean cut through the air. He's getting better at knife throwing and maybe he just wanted to show off a little, knowing that even if Ivar couldn't manage to catch it, it would just fly over his shoulder and not actually hurt him.
