Their bodies are pressed together and Mary can feel his heart beating against her chest. It reminds her that even though they're from so far apart in time, they're both still people. She likes having this privacy with him away from the party where the two of them can dance closely without having to worry about other people staring at them.

His mouth is close to hers and she can feel his words as breath on her cheek. "I feel the same way," she tells him. "You're kind and handsome and you always make me laugh."

She might not normally have gushed about his so freely, but there's something about tonight that makes her not want to hold back.
