Repairs are Hard Work
In the chaos of the dragon, much of the city was burnt, collapsed or otherwise rendered uninhabitable, and it woke the part of Turgon that built two cities of his own. Over the last month, he took plans to the Gods, and then to the natives, and he has most of a structure of a house up now, and is working on the plumbing and the roof. He started with clearing the rubble from the roads and making sure they are wide enough, making sure there were spaces for public gardens later. As he works, he's been teaching the natives, who have proven quite keen on helping out and learning this new skill.
Maybe he should see about getting some defensible walls up too, later. He has the plans out for those.
Of course, he can't fix a whole city by himself! His kin are in and out - although only Finrod and Elrond built in stone the way he did. And he is very willing to accept any help from anyone else, either who knows something about building themselves, or just to put willing hands to work.
[ OOC: So this is a mod-approved long-term project to fix the city! Anyone is welcome to join in, and
I've stuck a couple of headers under the cut if people would like to pitch in. Feel free to tag each other or create your own starters. This is scheduled to go on as background for the next 9+ months or so, with the first house being finished in (at this stage) about 3 months, and the first residential block in about 6 months after that. OOC plot post is here and IC comm post is here ]
City Planning
Turgon has papers spread out before him on the table covered in architectural drawings and planning designs. It is clear from them that he has done this before. The main roads are wide enough for two horse-drawn carts to pass, and run in clean, mostly straight lines, diving groups of houses and interspersed with plans for gardens. The houses have several rooms in a few basic designs, and he is quite happy to go over his ideas with anyone who is curious. Often, he can be found explaining to the natives he is teaching why one configuration would work better than another, or asking them which they would prefer.
Building a house
He's just as often found with tools in hand, either teaching anyone who cares to learn how it's done, or helping to put up a wall or fix the roof. As much as is possible, he tries to use what is already there, rather than pull things together from scratch. He might call over for a hand to pass something up to him, or help him pull a beam into place. It also might be useful to remind him he needs to take a break from time to time too.
Planting gardens
Of course, one can't always be building! He also has plans for the gardens, and he can get one done now, at least, in between working on the first house (the first one is always the slowest going, but he has faith that the natives are picking up quickly and the others won't take as long). He plans a fountain in the center, and has laid the foundations for that, and is happy to discuss what trees and plants would work best, or to get some help in planting them!

Kind of both building house and garden? Depends on when people want to run into him
He's not used to having to pace himself quite so much though, but when he feels he can still keep going a while longer, he winds up working in one of the growing gardens. He might be a lord, but he's far from afraid to get his hands dirty!
And he's keeping an eye on his relatives, to make sure they don't overtax themselves either!
Closed to Turgon, after comm post
"You are far more comfortable with this new method of communication than I would expect." He's proud of you, grandpa, really! There's the mischievous little smile to show he means it almost playfully.
=3
Or palantir, but ew Feanorian stuff.

"Swifter, as well."
...Even he isn't foolish enough to use a palantir.
He now just has to get used to using this new technology as well. Can't be shown up by his own grandfather, can he!
"When was the last time you ate?"
no subject
He pauses, considering. "I... am uncertain. Breakfast?"
no subject
"Then will you eat an early evening meal with me? I believe there is some food left from last night which will suffice."

Building a house
"How refreshing to see what you build, rather than simply hear of it." Of course, she couldn't resist the opportunity to tease him a little either. But she actually didn't come here just to harass him.
"Tell me how I might help. You are the expert here and not I."
no subject
"Well, tis only one house, so far! I am not about to rebuild Tirion." Again. Cough. If only because Finrod won't let him.
"Come and take a look. I am looking at the best ways to get the water piped from the roof to the house."
no subject
"I will hold you to that, you know." She laughs as she steps forward, following his gaze. "What are your difficulties? It seems as though it would be simple enough- but then, such things always do until they come down about your head."
no subject
"It minds me of when you were much younger." He smiles at her. "It suits you!"
He flushes a little. "I like Tirion's style." He objects mildly, and spreads the plans out to show her.
"My main concern is the water tank, and the fire to heat the water. I was planning on setting it on the roof, but then I am concerned about fire safety..."
This is the most Noldorin thing I've ever written
She's kidding, of course, though if he took her up on the challenge she'd have a hard time refusing. That competitive streak is still there- somethings never change.
"Let me see-" She leans over, peering at the plans. "I suppose a great deal depends on the design of your tank, doesn't it? Just how exposed do you intend the flames to be?"
You're welcome XD

House Building & Garden Planting (OTA)
[Two things were readily apparent to anyone who was helping out alongside Terezi. The first of these was the fact that she was willingly letting her blindfold rest around her throat instead of over her eyes. At least, this was true of her building a house. This was almost painfully difficult without her sight, and they were insisting that regular people had to live in them, so she was making allowances.
Preferring to work in the evening with lanterns up on the houses where late evening work wouldn't disturb people too much, she was pounding with a hammer or hefting blocks to move them into place for the night owl masons. Why was she working at night? Because the sun was bright and screw that shit, she was a troll and trolls were nocturnal basically.
Pointing to the spade and masonry trough she grunted towards her partner for the moment.]
Hey could you hand me the goop slatherer?
[...she means spade, honestly.]
And Garden...
[All bets were off with gardening, however. She could avoid maiming herself by digging into the soil, and as long as she could lift up a plant and untie it at the appropriate time, she could plant and cover a plant without seeing. She just had to work on her knees, and she could do that.
And the thing was, she could pull this off aesthetically (in her mind.). The girl smelled colors, so why couldn't she pick out colors to go together in decorative collections? Admittedly, her sense of style was garish and eclectic, so maybe... help direct her? still, there she was, working with the flowers and grinning away behind her blindfold.]
Who knew this would be this much fun!
House~
[ Turgon blinks at her in confusion ]

[She was, at least, pointing to the mason's trough with the spade in it. So hopefully it would be clear enough this time?]
no subject
Oh! [ He nods and passes the trowel over ]
This one, I assume? I know you said you had not much experience with these before, but you seem quite comfortable!
no subject
I don't have a lot of experience, but this isn't too complicated. You make sure the bricks are set straight to each other, uneven lines and you don't use too much goop between them. It'll be messy, but it'll be home!

"I can hold the rest and hand them up to you a few at a time," she offers.
no subject
"Could you? That would be terribly helpful."
no subject
"So is it a stupid question to ask what part you're working on right now?" Just in case it's obvious and she just can't tell.
no subject
He shakes his head and hops down. "It isn't." he assures her. "At the moment, I imagine everything just looks like bricks! But I'm working on the main wall of the house, right now. You can see that gap there, that will be the front door, and this one here will be a window."

"Gonna leave any little secrets behind?" she asks. "Like signing your name somewhere before you cover it up?"

Building / Gardens - OTA
[Fran is about as useful when it comes to building as a well trained dog. They can fetch things that are needed, but it's a lot of work to get them to know what you're talking about for anything specific. They've been occupying themselves since the city's attack with a few minor tasks, mostly helping out in the hospital... But this kindof things catches their interest.
One particular task has the nymph out by the construction materials, straining to lift a heavy piece of stone. Five-foot nothing and built like a particularly effete stick. Perhaps a hand might be appreciated? ]
Gardening
[Gardening is something Fran can do! From suggesting different kinds of flowers for aesthetic or more practical purposes to getting their hands dirty in a more literal sense, much better than heavy lifting!
If anyone else happens to be around while the nymph is kneeling over a patch of dirt, they'll turn about and raise one arm, pointing towards a box of seedlings. ]
Could you pass the Okra pods please? They're the ones in the box with the green cover!
Gardening~
[ Gardens are more Galadriel's thing than his, but Turgon is still interested in knowing how things might play out ]
no subject
[ Once they're closer, Fran demonstrates planting them in the darker, rich soil about the edges of the garden bed. ]
They have beautiful white-green flowers, and then form a kind of pod-vegetable that you can eat in a few different ways!
no subject
Useful as well as beautiful!
[ He plants them carefully at precise intervals ]
Are they your favourite?
no subject
Hmm, I like all plants! It'd be difficult to pick a 'favourite'. I just thought these would be practical!... Well, that, and they were available.
