EVENT LOG: SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT
Who: EVERYONE
What: the Should You Choose to Accept It event log
When: November 22
Where: EVERYWHERE
Warnings: N/A

The rain doesn't let up over the rest of the month, but something new seems to crawl out of the downpour all the same. As your character goes about their day, they might find a variety of small animals huddling in dry spaces or darting into buildings seeking heat. Cats, dogs, rabbits, mice and other such critters start appearing on November 22 and spreading throughout the city in various ways. You might find them running from one place to another, barking or nipping at someone's feet, or otherwise doing what animals might do when caught in heavy rain.
Beyond simply appearing, however, some of the animals seem to want something from you. Maybe they follow you around until you pay attention to them, or maybe they just lounge in one space waiting for someone to approach. Maybe you find them in a precarious situation or have to rescue them from somewhere. Regardless of how you stumble upon them, without speaking or otherwise telling you what they need, you suddenly realize you have a choice to make as you interact with them.
Will you accept their quest?
[ OOC NOTE: This is the event log for the Should You Choose to Accept It event! Little animals are popping up all over the city and getting caught in the rain. Will you help them? Or will you do something else for them? There's a "quest board" of guest NPCs requesting ridiculous cute things you can use as the prompts for this event, but you can feel free to come up with your own odd tasks as well. Enjoy, and please let us know if you have any questions! ]

Peter Quill / MCU / Ota
Peter sure loves having the Benatar full of animals. A few weeks it was cows, pigs, and chickens; and now he seems happy to welcome any stray cat and dog that is trying to flee the rain. The door of the ship is open and the still intact wing offer covers for those animals who don't want to be inside but also don't like getting wet.
As for Peter, he can be seen walking around and tending to the different animal's demands or playing with them nonstop, especially the cats. In fact, his jacket is zipped up but not to end and a Siamese cat is pocking her head out, looking warm and pleased where she is. Peter's keeping the cat safe as she naps which means...Peter is keeping the cat. One of many, really, and all of them like to be feed.
The cats mewl and pool at his feet as he walks towards the nearest group with a tray of different kinds of foods for them: There pieces of cooked meat and fish, whole grains and some cheese.
"Yes, yes I know, shh, there's enough for everyone..." Peter hushes the cats in the soothing yet somewhat alarmed tone of voice of someone who found himself surrounded by hungry cats that are a second ago from clawing their way up his body to get to the tray. There are SO MANY cats (and Peter has already named most of them). So he turns towards the first person walking by for a little help.
"Ey! Do you mind giving me a hand before I end as their dinner? Armstrong here is trying to get to second base." Peter points to a black kitten with white paws clinging to his right thigh, making a valiant attempt at climbing him.
Any district 🐶
Peter's walking around the city when he's suddenly tackled to the ground by 75 pounds of golden retriever.
"JesusChrist! No..wait, stop that...you're..ugh...so heavy..." They have landed on a puddle which only causes Peter to screech and sputter indignantly while the dog keeps licking at his face. It's pretty obvious it wants to play, or attention and Peter resigns himself to sitting on the wet floor with a mountain of a dog on him.
"You're annoying and you smell." He scratches the dog behind the ears, the friendly gesture seeming at odds with his complain. The poor thing must have been out in the rain for a while now because, while his fur is still soft, part of it is matted with mud and cold to the touch. Peter doesn't have the heart to leave the dog outside to fend for himself. "I'm going to call you Thor."
all the cats
"Oh dear. You seem to be terribly popular with them, my friend!"
the best kitties
"It's because I come bearing gifts." Peter smiles upon seeing the king's familiar face. "I suspect they wil try to eat me too if I don't give them the food soon enough but I want to make sure all of them eat without fighting. Who's your new friend?"
Re: the best kitties
"Ah, love through the stomach." Turgon agrees wryly. "Should I help you with that?"
The kitten eyes the rivals from it's perch on Turgon's shoulder huffily, but deigns to purr at Peter.
"I don't know." He admits. "But he has been insisting on following me ever since I watched him nap...." help.

The black kitten climbing his leg is getting dangerously close to Peter's waist now, he wants at least a hand free to put him down before it falls and huts himself.
"I'd say you've adopted now, Turgon. Congratulations."
no subject
"Of course, here, let me get that for you."
He shoots a look at the kitten as it hisses at a dog that gets too close for it's liking. "Apparently????"
no subject
Turning his attention towards the black cat climbing him, Peter carefully picks him up and leaves Armstrong on the ground. The rest of the cats and other pets at their feet start to mewl and yip for attention. The guardian doesn't waste more time grabbing some of the food bowls and placing them down for them to reach. "Do you think Skadi has anything to do with this? She likes animals."
no subject
"Not yet. I am still uncertain if it is wise for this little one to stay with me... there are so many heavy thing in the construction site, and he is so small! But if he insists, I suppose I will have to come up with something."
He considers this.
"It does seem likely."
no subject
"You could get yourself a cat carrier. They make backpacks that allow to keep the kitty safe and that way you don't have to leave him alone at home." Frankly, the mental image of Turgon with his kitty in a carrier is adorable.
"In that case, let's hope those are real animals and now wanderer who got turned into pets."

I think it's a good spot for it =D
doggy district
"Dog." He points at the canine, then at Peter.
"Do you want me... to get dog. Off of you." With his strength, it'd be like lifting a pillow.
Re: doggy distthat is the best icon omg
hornyhorned friend! hi there. He looks up...and then keeps tilting his head back because Asterios seems even bigger to Peter now that he's practically flat on his back with a cuddle monster in his lap."Yes, it is a big dog." Cute, Asterios, very cute. The guardian smiles, his hair mussed and giving him a somewhat younger look. "My hero. But be careful, he might try to lick your face off. Doggy kisses are messy."
The dog, Thor now, wags his tail madly when he sees there's a new possible friend.HI NEW FRIEND!...alas, moving his tail like that is throwing more muddy water *everywhere*
no subject
"Stay." He commands - without much command. Merely saying the word, not much of an effort, but then he knows random dogs aren't going to obey random people.
no subject
Peter takes the opportunity to take a deep breath and then rubs at his cheek where the dog licked him all over. "And hyperactive fellow, isn't he? I think he likes you."
no subject
As such, he's already starting to turn away and walk. "Be good."
no subject
Peter has thrown an arm around the dog's neck and back, trying to hold him in place and stop the huge beast for running over more people. "I might need some help getting him to Tyr house to clean him."
no subject
With a gruff grump, he turns back around. "Okay."
no subject
"I don't suppose you could, ugh..." Peter is trying to stay upright while at the same time not letting go of the dog, it's easier said than done because Thor keep trying to sit on him every other second. "...Hold it again?"

Benatar
Which is probably why she's approaching the ship at that very moment, while a swarm of ca-- wait, a swarm of cats? Naminé stops short at the sight, expression dropping into one of baffled surprise as she takes in the mass of felines, almost not even recognizing that there's someone in their midst until Quill calls out to her. Her eyes snap upward abruptly with a, ]
-- Peter?
[ Of course it's Peter - it's his ship. It's hard not to get thrown off by such an unexpected sight, but presently she seems to recover well enough for her natural helpful inclinations to kick in. ]
… What do you need me to do?
[ Not that she really has a hand free herself at the moment. ]
no subject
Starlight! Fancy seeing you here. [ Peter gives her a smile that only wavers a little when the kitten climbing him presses his claws a bit too tight against his leg. Ouchie. ]
Better get yourself out of the bad weather first before you and your little charge catch a cold, sweetheart. I'd offer you a towel but my hands are busy at the moment. Also my legs, unfortunately.
no subject
In any case, Naminé smiles back immediately - more broadly because of the nickname - as she approaches, hovering momentarily just outside the cover of the ship's wings. Upon his approval she finally steps in out of the rain, carefully lowering her umbrella so that she can shake a little of the water off as far from the collective feline presence as possible. ]
No need - I'm dry enough. [ Actually, she's a bit damp from several other animal-related escapades today, but she's still functional and at least not presently shivering, even though that's definitely been a thing today already and she looks close to it now. That's sufficient, right? } But thank you, very much. I was hoping I'd be able to get this one someplace warm…!
[ The kitten, she surely means - and all this she says as she does her best to stow her umbrella away somewhere as expediently as possible, so as to free up a hand. With both an unburdened arm and her newly redirected attention, she turns back to him to give the more insistent cat climbing on him another once over, beginning to look uncertain. ]
Should I-- try to get them off of you?
no subject
Ah, if you are sure. But if you get cold, feel free to get inside at any moment. I'm leaving the door open so the new animals can roam in and out of the house..er..ship. [ Same thing to him, honestly. ] That's a really cute kitten, have you thought of a name yet?
[ The cats at Peter's feet mewl at him and some stand on their hind leg, trying to get his attention back. He hushes them kindly and then gives Naminé a long-suffering nod. Being a cat baby sitter is hard. ]
If you could grab the one climbing my leg that would be fantastic. I need to bend down to put the bowls of food on the ground but I can't do that with the cat clinging to my thigh.
no subject
But at the moment, most of her tension seems to come from a sense of urgency about helping poor Peter out. ] I will, [ she promises, mostly for his sake; she can stand being cold a little longer, no matter how the comparative safety of the ship beckons to her. It's only at his question that she pauses in her steps, midway back to him from where she placed her umbrella. ]
A name? [ Her glance down at the kitten still tucked to her chest involves a brief falter, and then she turns her attention to the sea of other cats she has to wade through to get to Peter. She begins to do so with great care after he's explained what he needs her to do, trying her best not to step on any paws or tails along the way. ] I-- hadn't thought about that. I was just trying to find it somewhere safe, so it wouldn't be cold...!
[ The girl finally manages to edge her way between enough cats to make a reach for the one climbing on him, although doing so one-handed is unwieldy. She tries to adjust her grip, considering whether or not her own kitten mightn't fare better on the ground for a moment, but it cries pathetically when she so much as shifts it slightly away from her, and she relents, tucking it close again. ]
It's so small... [ It sounds like keeping it hadn't actually occurred to her yet. As she reasons through that possibility, ] … Shouldn't its mother miss it? [ But that's an assumption not unlike one people make of her, too; soberly, ] If it... has a mother, that is.
[ Mouth pulling unconsciously into a frown, she finally manages to get a tenuous hold of the kitten climbing Quill's leg. Pulling gently at it in the hopes of encouraging it to let go, ] Come here, please.
no subject
He gives her a small smile at that promise of getting in if she needs to, and then grins at her surprised reaction. ]
I already named like, half of these cats. All creatures need a name, more so if you later plan to keep them. You wouldn't like a kitty for a pet? They make good company and they're really smart. [ There's another demanding meow at Peter's feet. ] They are impatient, though.
[ He sighs in relief when Namine gently insistence finally gets Armstrong to let go of his leg after only some soft unhappy mewling. ]
Its mother might be around the city but finding her won't be easy. You could keep it until then? [ Free to move, Peter starts placing the bowls on the ground for the different cats to eat as he talks. They quickly pool around the food, some cats trying to climb the others, but thankfully the man brought enough food for all of them. ] Now, now, be good, the lot of you. No fighting for the food, there's more inside.
[ He leaves one bowl on the tray and careful walks away from the mass of cats, approaching Naminé. ]
I kept this one for your kitten and Armstrong. They're so small they would have trouble getting to the food on the ground with all the other bigger cats getting in the way. If you want, we could sit by the door of my ship and feed them while keeping an eye on the other cats.
no subject
… I've never named anything before, [ she admits after a beat, almost more to herself than him. It sounds, going by her voice, like a responsibility she takes seriously, though she doesn't let it distract her from her other duty of making sure Armstrong doesn't tear any unfortunate holes in Quill's pants. ] It's-- not that I think I wouldn't like having a cat. [ Actually, the idea sounds rather nice, now that she thinks of it, ] But I wouldn't know how to take care of one. I've never had any kind of pet before, either.
[ Although she certainly seems to have a kind enough heart to try her best, because right now she's making a valiant effort to keep Armstrong from being swallowed up by the crowd of larger cats by holding him to her much the way she's got the other kitten. Backing carefully out of the cluster of felines and away from Quill, she glances up at him with a concerned look, then nods. ]
I'm going to have to. [ Continue looking after the cat, that is. She's not about to leave such a small kitten to fend for itself - that'd be cruel. Not to mention that she knows if she were still an owl, like that one time, it'd look an awful lot like an easy meal. But, you know, that's not a place that she wants to let her mind go, and cuts herself off from that quickly. Given plenty to think on, she quiets as she watches Peter set down food for the other cats, focus turned partially inward. That doesn't prevent her from noticing the extra bowl, however, and as he comes nearer her focus returns to him, brows raising curiously.
His explanation seems to satisfy her at exactly the same time as it gives her more to consider, and she agrees without hesitation, ]
Yes - I'd like that. Thank you, I'm... not sure when the last time this one ate was.
[ Which causes her some fretting now that she's examining it, but the kitten seems reasonably healthy, all things considered. ]
no subject
[ Peter says without shame, since he's been more than willing to give it to them. He doesn't laugh at Naminés surprised expression but it's a close thing, eyes bright with mirth at her reaction. ]
There's no time like the present. That's what they say in my world. [ It is a responsibility of a sort. They could give a pet all sorts of names but since it's something that is going to stick and others might hear, it's better if it's a good name, either something nice or fun or cute. ] Don't stress over it, It doesn't have to be too serious. More often than not I name things and animals after singers. Taking care of a cat isn't much different than taking care of yourself, you just need to make sure it's safe, well-feed and healthy. There are a list of things animals can't eat or they get sick, you can find books about it in the library.
[ He can help her with it, even if what Peter know he also learned it form trial an error. The man reaches out to rub Armstrong between his ears, smiling at the kittens ]. Poor things. Let's sit then.
