MINI EVENT: IN FULL BLOOM

It's unlikely you see the catalyst of this event, or at least understand it. The entirety of Asgard can be, and frequently is tied to the Gods that protect it and what they have dominion over. The latent curses that Wanderers have sprung upon them are intangible proof, but when it comes to a God like Sigyn...her ties to the world are much more visible, apparent.

She's holed herself up in her district, tending to the earth with her hands and tools, like a human would. It distracts her, makes it easier to force her mind to feel things it isn't otherwise. Most Gods would know this comes with side effects; if snapped out of the state, she would as well. Right now, it's not so pressing a matter.

Her emotional unsteadiness doesn't come out as ugly or marred as one might imagine -- no, if you're standing outside when the magic takes effect, you'll be surprised to see large clumps of flowers curling up from the earth and blooming blossoms larger than they should be almost immediately after coming into complete existence. Some locations for these plants make no sense, taking root anywhere they please. Maybe in a patch of soil, or maybe on the side of a wall. Your roof, your bathtub, the very sleeve of your shirt.

Their sudden appearance may cause you alarm, enough to stay away on instinct. It's likely for naught, with just how plentiful they are. Smelling their aroma or coming into contact with their pollen is basically an inevitability. And when you do...something strange will happen.

ASPHODEL → This flower will cause the feeling of soul-crushing regret and guilt. What's the one thing that you regret the most? The one thing you would change if you could turn back time? It's time to have that thrown back in your face for the next twelve hours, assuming you're not exposed to this pollen again. In the case that there is no big thing that you regret or feel guilty about, it'll be some small minor thing that has been exacerbated in your mind by the pollen to the point that it is now a big deal as well.

CARNATION → After coming into contact with this flower, you feel a pull of absolutely clinginess that draws you towards someone you have some degree of fondness for, be it romantic or platonic in nature. There's this niggling feeling that won't stop pestering you, that you simply have to be in close proximity to this person. Hovering, observing, touching. Once you are? The feeling goes away. This magic tether lasts throughout the day, despite how your target may feel about it. If for some reason you can't be near this person, like they force you away by some magical means, your desperation strengthens as the proximity remains broken.

EDELWEISS → This one will cause you to become extremely reckless. It goes beyond developing or exacerbating a hero complex. It's like experiencing l'appel du vide for twelve hours and actually listening to it. You won't be very susceptible to reason without some magic to put a stop to you, and your sense of consequence? Completely out the window.

POPPY → Upon close contact with these flowers, you experience mild to severe synesthesia for anywhere from ten minutes to a couple of hours. Your senses mingle. You smell colours, see sounds. It often comes with a very mild sense of euphoria, but some find it disorienting instead.

GENTANIA → When's the last time you had a good night's sleep? A few days? Weeks? Prior to ever showing up here? Here, let's help with that. The pollen from Gentania andrewsii, commonly known as a closed or bottle gentian, will instantly put anyone who comes in contact with it to sleep. It doesn't matter if they're sitting, standing, driving or swimming. They will fall into a deep sleep, varying anywhere from six to twelve hours. For the duration of that time, they will experience vivid nightmares, and will only awaken after experiencing sleep paralysis.

IRIS → Apparently you're allergic to this flower. Don't worry, everyone else is too. Contact with this pollen causes a painful burning sensation. Don't scratch or rub at it, because that'll only cause it to spread. Washing the afflicted area or applying any sort of ointment or balm won't help. Tough it out. It'll only last a couple of hours.

The flowers definitely overstay their welcome, as does their magic. The blooms themselves will fall off and uproot themselves from their unnatural settings after about a week. The magic? It sticks with the plants for a whole day. The curse you're hit with might not last as long, but this means being careful: there's always the chance of being afflicted again. Maybe with two curses at once!

How will you know the curse is over? Maybe if you can put two and two together, you'll wake up in the morning and notice stepping outside doesn't...smell the way it usually does. The grass, any stray flowers, trees. None of them have any whiff of a scent.

Note that you can stack flower curse effects except for the Gentania curse that puts someone to sleep.

[ Her eyes shift toward the flower as he mentions it, lingering there a moment as she pays it proper attention for the first time. ]

Ah...! It's a different kind.

[ Well, that's interesting. ]

Now that I think about it, there are a lot of these around today, aren't there?

I guess. I grabbed it cause I figured I'd give it to you or something.

[Sora explains with a shrug. He's not too fussed either way, in being more active outside with swimming or sparring or racing or such to have spent a lot of time gardening. But flowers were pretty and smelled nice. He thought maybe she might like it is all.]

Oh? To me?

[ The idea triggers a surprised blink, but soon enough a bashful smile curls at her mouth. ]

I'm flattered, then - that you thought of me. It... is very pretty.

Y-yeah. I thought you might like it. I mean, it's pretty and smelled nice, so.

[He'd just figured he could grab it for her. Only, when he did find her she was up in the tree and all. And they'd gone rock climbing. He himself might look a little bashful, raising a hand to the back of his neck as he notes some movement in others seeming to want to use the rock climbing. He reaches then to her hand in at least leading them out of the way.]

[ Although normally she might have anticipated their being in someone else's way, Sora's a pretty good distraction. Once she realizes it, though, she gives a soft noise of surprise and offers a quiet apology to the bystanders, her fingers naturally shaping themselves to Sora's once he reaches for her hand. Trailing after him, she finally says the shy, ]

Well, you were right.

[ that she'd meant to say before. As they walk, ]

-- Wait, were you waiting to bring it up this whole time?

[ Because she'll feel bad if she was taking up his time with other stuff. ]

I guess I forgot about it for a bit? Finding you up in the tree and all....

[Which is fair enough? That was the last place he would have expected to find her and all. Considering her not being the most athletic usually. Sora was surprised and worried in the moment and all. He takes the flower and offers it to her now anyway if she wants it.]

[ She makes a quiet noise of understanding. Now that she thinks about it, ]

That must have seemed strange...

[ And it seems a little strange to her now, too, in hindsight. Why was she up there again? She doesn't have long to concentrate on it, because soon enough he's holding the flower out to her. The girl gives a soft exhale of surprise, then reaches to take the offered bloom. ]

Thank you, [ she says, looking down at the flower - almost close enough to sniff. ] Really, Sora. [ A beat, as she realizes she still has her own flower as well. ] -- Oh. We can trade, if you'd like...!

[ The edelweiss isn't exactly ugly either. ]

A little. Yeah.

[He can't help but to smile a little at that, chuckling for a brief moment before he blinks when she offers her flower. He gives a nod then, figuring it couldn't hurt to take it. It's just a flower. And from her, after all.]

Alright.

[ She'd think twice about it if her mind were fully clear and she'd considered the possible causes for her behavior, but in the absence of such thought it seems like a nice enough idea. Her hand falls away once his has accepted the flower, both sets of her fingers coming to take delicate hold of the one he gave her. She hesitates a moment before shifting it around to tuck it into her hair, like she originally did with the edelweiss.

With that settled, she exhales a breath, looks up at the wall-- ]

I think... I'm done climbing for today.

Fair enough.

[Sora attaches the flower to his jacket, not thinking much if anything on her now seeming more like usual and less confident in comparison to how she was before with this particular flower. As their fingers brush in exchanging the flowers. He gives a shrug and figures to lead her out of the arena.]

[ Naminé's eyes linger on the structure for just a moment before they shift back down, her head angling his way as she watches him settle the flower in place. 'It looks good on you,' she doesn't say, because it sounds weird even in her own head, but she smiles all the same. ]

Sorry, [ she speaks out loud instead, ] if you're disappointed about not getting the chance to climb anymore.

[ But it's not a serious concern, and she seems in good enough spirits as she moves to keep pace with him while they walk out. After a moment's thoughtful silence, ]

It really is odd. I'm not sure what got into me...!

It's okay. I'm just glad you didn't get hurt with falling or anything. Is the main thing.

[Though, well. If they thought Sora was reckless before. That might only be heightened in her giving him the flower. If it does in fact transfer when the flower is passed to another person like this. Still, he does admire her with the flower he had picked for her.]

[ Her shoulders move in the light suggestion of a shrug. ]

I had you to look after me.

[ Which was good, since she might have had a hard time otherwise. She sticks close to him, though she doesn't inhale the scent of the flower deeply enough to feel the full effects and step even nearer. ]

And the - harness, of course.

[ Can't forget about that. Still, she feels almost retroactively nervous, and huffs a little sigh as she tries to clear the thought from her mind. ]

Well, yeah. Course. Yeah, and the harness.

[Still. At the least, she seems fine for all the physical activity and climbing of the day. Which was good. What should happen. Her slowly adjusting and getting more confident in herself, in her relationships to trust others to help her out.]

A-anyway, was there anything else you wanted to do or were you going to head back to your housing?

-- Oh. Well....

[ The way she looks, you'd think she hadn't even considered what to do next. She shakes her head slightly to clear it; half of it's the residual effect of the edelweiss and half of it's just because when he leads her, she follows. ]

It has been a pretty long day already, [ she admits, with some reluctance. Parting from him is never something she looks forward to, flower or no flower. ] I suppose it might be a good idea to get some rest.

Alright. Want me to walk you back?

[He doesn't mind either way. If she wants him to or says she is fine to get back to the housing herself. As long as he was able to help her out. To take her rock climbing as a safer alternative and climbing trees and all at least. Sora just instinctively, out of habit, leads the way in at least exiting outside the Colosseum building.]

[ His offer brings back her good humor in short order, her mouth easing into a smile again. They are headed the right way already, aren't they? ]

If you don't mind, [ she agrees, voice gentled. ] You've done a lot for me already today.

[ Not that that ever seems to stop him. ]

It's fine. I can walk you.

[He doesn't mind. At least that way he would know she got back alright. Without further unusual behaviour or something anyway. So Sora just keeps going in that direction, not seeming to mind if he does notice he might still be holding her hand. It doesn't take long, in any case.]

[ It's probably a sign of how far she's come that she doesn't seem quite as bashful about it all as she might have before. Instead she smiles gently, sincerely, unbothered about the way their hands still clasp each other.

And it really doesn't take long. She's mostly quiet on the way, content to enjoy his company and the flowers that seem to have sprung up everywhere. Eventually, as their near her house, she murmurs, ]

I didn't realize how many there were...!

Huh, yeah. More than I remember seeing before. I guess that's why they stood out and I grabbed you one earlier.

[Still. They're pretty and smell nice at least. That was the whole point on flowers. These just also apparently come with possible side effects. If theirs they have now are anything to go by anyway. He's used to this though in walking her back so doesn't think much if anything of it, just wanting to get her to the door so he knows she gets back alright.]

Maybe, [ she agrees, the house coming into view. Her eyes catch on it and she pauses, because-- ]

-- Oh. They're even growing on the roof...!

[ Now that's peculiar, as if the sheer volume of plants wasn't strange enough. ]

Ah, they are. I guess I hadn't checked if there were gardens up there before. They probably would get more sun up on the roof though. And rain. Make the most of it to grow more.....

[Sora notes them too, pausing when she does to glance where she seems to be looking. It's pretty. Not that they have the best view from where they are down there of course but still. He can tell the flowers are up there at least.]

That's true...! But it must be hard to grow where there's so little soil.

[ Still, it is pretty. Naminé spends a few moments admiring it before remembering their original aim. Head lowering as she glances back over at him, ]

I guess this is it, then. You walked me back, like you said you would.

[ Although honestly one has room to wonder how safe a location her house is at the moment, what with all the overgrowth. ]

I guess someone sorted out some gardening up there at least. Maybe with like pot plants or something?

[He's guessing at least. In not actually having been up there before himself anyway. On these rooftops at least. Still he gives a shrug, with a small smile in at least taking a moment to admire it himself before she glances to him and mentions in returning her back to her housing.]

If you're sure here is fine. Okay then.

I don't know. I can't see any...!

[ But that's hardly important. The point is, their afternoon together is pretty much over; she nods at his comment, then very carefully - and with some reluctance - relaxes her grip on his hand until it falls away. Folding her hands together now that they're both free, ]

Thank you, Sora. You've done a lot of looking after me today.
