EVENT LOG: HÆIÐRS-MINNI

Who: EVERYONE
What: the Hæiðrs-Minni event log
When: November 16
Where: EVERYWHERE
Rating: PG-13; please take anything higher than this to a private log!

morning: the funeral

The morning sun is lost behind clouds that pour in an endless rain, casting the city into a dark and gloomy shadow. The streets of Asgard are almost entirely empty, although hardly a soul can be found indoors either. Everyone is gathered instead at the riverbank on the castle grounds, where a series of boats are tethered along the short and gently tugging with the current. The native Asgardians place gifts, food, and personal belongings into the boats in memory of their lost loved ones.

Whether you've lost someone, were lost yourself, or carry some other loss within you, the natives invite you to place your own offerings in the boats to send off your sorrows together.

Several hours into the morning, once everyone has had their chance to fill the boats, Heimdall gives a short speech honoring those that fell in the recent battle as the boats are let loose down the river. Honir fires an arrow towards the last one to float away, and Odin lights it on fire as it soars overhead, the single arrow splitting into a wave of shooting stars that strike each boat dead center. The boats alight all at once, and even with the rain pouring overhead, they continue to burn as they float gently out of sight, carrying everyone's grief away with them.

all day: the dedication

Throughout the rest of the day, many of Asgard's residents seem to buzz around Firar Samka, the cultural museum in Mimir's district. A new wing has been added to document Asgard's recent triumphs, but most especially to honor the unexpected stalwart allies of the kingdom: you, the Wanderers from other worlds. This display was added to memorialize the lengths you've gone to in the name of protecting and preserving life within the realm, the core purpose of Asgard in its entirety. You are heroes among gods and this exhibit seeks to portray that for all to see.

As you wander through the display, you might see childish drawings of familiar people fighting a massive dragon, or a large painted mural of solemn faces standing off against an army of ghoulish figures. Skadi can be found beside these, sometimes twisting them into eerie motion or placing a new piece somewhere along the halls.

Elsewhere, you can find Njord alone or accompanied by some human skalds as they sing or read poetry or even sometimes reenact part of the battles against the Red Death and the Army of the Dead. Your characters can watch or join, and they might even hear their own names mentioned among the reverence and song. This is the story of Asgard and the Wanderers conquering death, and you're right at the center of it.

evening: the feast

To end the day on a high note, everyone is invited to Nādhirhöll in Tyr's district, where the entire banquet hall has been decked out in so many colors and leaves and lights that it might feel like walking into an overgrown forest tightly held in the grips of a sparkling autumn. With the growing success of the distilleries in Njord's district, vodka and ales are passed around freely alongside the mountains of food available on tables in every room. People dance and sing and lounge around the leaves with laughter and a joyful appreciation of life in the air.

If your character joins the party, they might notice themselves feeling more warm and relaxed over the course of the evening. They might have the unusual inclination to be more physically affectionate with people and vocally declare their appreciation to them. Deep in this glittering "forest," it is easy to feel lost in the warmth and comfort of good company and relative safety.

This party continues into the morning of the next day, something that many may not realize as deeply wrapped in an artificial forest as they may be. The effects of the curse fade as everyone stumbles their way out of Nādhirhöll, leaving a heavy blanket of strangely warm exhaustion behind. It's been a long and potentially emotional day, but the city seems to be brought together under a shared relief and a new tomorrow.

[ OOC NOTES: This is the event log for Hæiðrs-Minni! There are various goings-on throughout the day to acknowledge past strife and be grateful for a projected future. If you have any questions or need any help, please let us know on the mod contact page! ]

Morning)
She didn't shy away from the ceremony. Usually? She was more on the mockery or irreverent side of things normally, but she still felt like this was a moment to take, to think about those who had passed, those who had disappeared in her life, and a few of the others who'd fallen in that last fight with the dead.

She was there, dressed as simply as ever. Formal attire wasn't something she either understood or had. T-Shirt, jeans, blindfold resting on her shoulders, white eyes staring on while she looked at the boats, and a jacket to protect against the rain. She stayed quiet, thinking about everyone dead in her own timeline.

When they asked gifts, she brought out a pair. One was a rainbow colored scarf and the other was the pin from a detonated grenade. If you were curious what on earth that pair of very odd gifts to the boats might have been about, there was only one way to find out, and she had stepped away from the crowd by a tree as the arrow was lit.

The Dedication)
Ok, this was officially surreal. She was staring at a picture of her riding a horse along with Ivar, lancing and shooting at a giant dragon. It was childlike, which she didn't mind in the slightest. Her own artistic skills were debatable at best, but the idea of being painted like some sort of hero? That was just kind of odd.

She glanced over at the person next to her, whispering softly. "You ever feel really awkward when you know people've been talking about you?" Because she really really did right now.

(OOC: Otherwise known as "I want a party thread!" If you don't see something you want to do with Terezi, just start a prompt at your leisure. I'll run with whatever!)

The Dedication

"I think they really captured your spirits there." Peter appeared next to her, admiring the drawing. He's been part of the funeral and didn't feel like talking to anybody but this new wing got his attention. He even spotted himself in a few of his drawings, and even Sandy was drawn as a kitty with large ears in one of them.

"But I think you might have liked to ride the dragon rather than fight it."

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-11-20 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
She glanced over at him, relaxing a little and chuckling. Yeah, this was all kind of weird and new for her, but it was still amusing to hear him put it that way. What? He wasn't wrong.

"I ended up getting up on that thing for a little bit in the middle of the fighting. Didn't stay for long, though. Man was he a pain in the butt." She chuckled. "You know that's pretty much where I met Ivar?"
momsboy: (Did you hear that?)

[personal profile] momsboy 2019-12-24 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
He wasn't wrong, no, and it was sweet that the locals were trying to honor their sacrifices and hard work. Even if their way of honoring the wanderers was sometimes more embarrassing than not.

"Oh, I know how it was. Steve and I also had to climb it. Big mean thing that it was, I'm glad we all managed to stop it in time." He's not surprised to know it was during battle that she met the Viking.

"Ivar is made to be in that sort of places, he thrives in battle. Do you get along? He's a bit difficult but if someone understands violent tendencies that's your kind..."
mindseer: (Blindfold (Smile))

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-12-26 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I think we get along just fine," she grinned away, laughing as she said it. "He's got just about the right level of violence to hi without being dumb about it. It helps when you know someone's capable of violence but that doesn't mean that they're going to be violent right now now."

It sort of suited a troll's sensibilities. "He's definitely not one to let physical problems limit him. I'll say that."
momsboy: (Er...no we won't be doing that)

[personal profile] momsboy 2019-12-26 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"I get what you mean. Unless someone pisses him off by being disrespectful, he's good at strategizing and finding the enemies weak spots."

The downside was that Ivar had a hair-trigger temper. But Peter lived all those months with him and survived, so it was all good. At the mention of physical problems not limiting people, Peter gave Terezi an understanding look and a smile. She would know.

"He's not the only person like that around."

He definitely had that. And a half. That boy could lose it easily, though somehow she'd managed not to hork him off, probably because she could commiserate with his world-view without instantly supporting all of it. Live and let live. Kill and let kill. More or less.

"Yep. Boy's got a thing about proper respect. Kind of reminds me of someone, only a lot easier to talk to." Not Gam for once. "That's right... there was someone else asking around here wasn't there? About wheelchairs."

Chizuru just giggles as she's asked that question - like there's something really amusing about it to her. She smiles as she turns towards the girl.

"Why? I thought you'd find this sort of thing flattering." Even though it's not as if Chizuru knows Terezi super well, the impression of the other that she's gotten so far didn't make her seem shy or bashful in the least. So not the type to find it weird to know there's a drawing of herself out there.
mindseer: (White Eye (Talk))

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-11-21 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ehehe, I mean it's kind of cute that they're thinking about us, but I'm not exactly the troll that people write badass slam poetry about when they think of troll heroes." For all that she was really in your face most of the time, there was a lot of it that was bluster. The girl had a few self esteem issues... ok, more than a few.

"Sort of a new experience for me. But I guess we did save their butts a couple times didn't we?"
tealeafs: (oh transient flower)

[personal profile] tealeafs 2019-11-21 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right. You worked hard, so it's only natural that it's appreciated."

Not that she would ever demand something like this being done for herself if Chizuru was ever out in battle or doing something amazing. She doesn't think of herself enough to even consider it. But Terezi is sweet, if not kind of quirky, and her heart seems to be in the right place enough to deserve some acknowledgement.

"Besides, I think the drawings are kind of cute. You look extra cute and tiny on here! .. Oh, but still great, though."

As cool as anyone can be in this style of drawing, anyway..
mindseer: (White Eye (Smile))

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-11-21 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
She scratched at the back of the head. Laughing a little when Chizuru said that. "Eheh, yeah. I guess... I mean, I just led them to the target. That's what my nose is good for, but I was helping." She coughed once into her hand. It was pretty obvious that she was having a little trouble thinking of that. "But Karkat keeps telling me I should think better of myself. So maybe..."

She snickered afterwards, grinning far more broadly. "Oh yeah, we've got some real troll Picassos budding here. They need to keep this stuff up, absolutely. Can't stifle the little artists no matter what they put out."

She definitely wasn't going to denigrate the art of little kids. Had anyone seen the crap she used to draw?
tealeafs: (into the heavens)

[personal profile] tealeafs 2019-11-22 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Karkat keeps telling Terezi to think better of herself? That's the first time Chizuru has been clued in to the fact that the other may have an insecure side, which immediately kicks her reassuring mom instincts into high gear.

"Of course you should think better of yourself!" Even if she's not sure of what Terezi currently thinks of herself, but whatever. It can always be better! Everyone should love themselves! "You're amazing. After all, you just went out there and helped in the fight like that. That's not something just anyone could do."
mindseer: (White Eye (Shock))

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-11-23 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
She blinked and looked at her, a little taken aback before laughing lightly and reaching back to the back of her head to scratch. Her usual bluster didn't quite come to her just yet, but she managed not to try and hide herself in a hoodie or anything.

"That's actually totally normal for trolls. We're always looking for a fight. I'd be defective if I wasn't, like Tavros, eheheh," she looked nervous and coughed. "But ... I guess nobody was really doing the whole tracking thing in the fight with the wights, were they?"
tealeafs: (oh heavenly wind)

[personal profile] tealeafs 2019-11-23 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
Listen, the whole idea of being defective if you can't or won't fight is.. problematic, in Chizuru's eyes, at least. But she won't start about that now, especially since it's probably hard for one firl to do something about a whole society she isn't even part of.

It's better to focus on more positive and productive things. Like reassuring the other that yes, she is pretty amazing!

"Right." She nods. "Back home Hijikata-san always told me that's why everyone is important during moments like those. Everyone can do different things. No matter how small your part may seem to you, battles can't be won without it."
mindseer: (Default)

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-12-03 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially since said society was entirely dead from the side effects of its own royal stupidity literally. Kind of hard to fix what was broken beyond repair after the fact.

"It's ... Your friend's not wrong. In fact, without a support class, you're basically doomed. Back home in the game, if you didn't have a life user, you had to figure out how to heal injuries, for example. Without the right combo, it never worked. It's just..." she sighed and laughed. "You know, being support doesn't usually come with a lot of accolades, and I guess I'm surprised to even see any coming my way."
tealeafs: (oh transient flower)

[personal profile] tealeafs 2019-12-04 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a brief beat where Chizuru is quiet, but then she softly smiles.

"That's no good." Even though she knows it's reality. Sometimes the small things people do that make big things work out in the end go unnoticed - or maybe it's often rather than just sometimes. And even though that may be hard to change, they can still take small steps towards it. "In that case, I'll make sure to say it. Especially if there's a moment where you're not acknowledged the way you are now."

You know, with these cute kid drawings.

"You're doing great, Terezi."
mindseer: Commissoned, please ask before using (White Eye (Smug))

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-12-06 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hehehe, you almost sound like you're trying to give me a big think pan there," she murmured, chuckling some and reaching over to give Chizuru a thwack on the back with a sort of forced smirk. "I'm not incapable of standing up for what I can do. I just kind of usually blend in when I'm not trolling folks. Feels more natural." Kind of like hiding her face in a hoodie.

"But... I appreciate that some folks feel better off because of me. I just have to get used to thinking like that."
tealeafs: (circle the sky)

[personal profile] tealeafs 2019-12-06 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm just saying what I was thinking!"

But she laughs after she says it. Especially since the message seems to have reached Terezi all the same. Not to mention that something about this feels nice. Even if there may be an age difference between her and the other, it's still so rare for Chizuru to ever have been able to joke around with another girl like this.

It kind of makes her feel like a normal girl for a moment.

"But I guess that means you'll just have to keep helping out people here."
mindseer: (White Eye (Smile))

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-12-06 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
She giggled right back and bobbed her head in response to the young woman, her fanged grin pretty wide and shark-like in the process. "Yep. Guess I'll just have to keep helping them out and getting used to the praise. Might even get to liking it eventually," she said. It was nice to joke about it. It made things feel more normal for her really.

"They're pretty good artists though. Real colorful. I like that."
tealeafs: (if i feel the most alive)

[personal profile] tealeafs 2019-12-07 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Chizuru smiles as she looks at the drawings.

"Right? I didn't expect to see these here.. This place looks so fancy, after all." Not exactly like the kind of place that'd accept children's drawings, let alone put them so prominently on display. But while that's a surprise, it's a good kind of surprise. It's nice to see them being so inclusive. "I guess that whoever runs this place must have realised how nice it was for whoever made these to draw them for us."
mindseer: (Blindfold (Smile))

[personal profile] mindseer 2019-12-08 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
"See, bright, colorful stuff like this? That comes out of a little grubling's head? That's kind of the art I'm used to. Of course none of us was super great with art back home. But this stuff's kind of fun because it's all kinds of unfiltered. Stuff right out of the grubling's thinkpan's the best."

she did have her artistic opinions right there, didn't she?
