MINI EVENT: IN FULL BLOOM

It's unlikely you see the catalyst of this event, or at least understand it. The entirety of Asgard can be, and frequently is tied to the Gods that protect it and what they have dominion over. The latent curses that Wanderers have sprung upon them are intangible proof, but when it comes to a God like Sigyn...her ties to the world are much more visible, apparent.

She's holed herself up in her district, tending to the earth with her hands and tools, like a human would. It distracts her, makes it easier to force her mind to feel things it isn't otherwise. Most Gods would know this comes with side effects; if snapped out of the state, she would as well. Right now, it's not so pressing a matter.

Her emotional unsteadiness doesn't come out as ugly or marred as one might imagine -- no, if you're standing outside when the magic takes effect, you'll be surprised to see large clumps of flowers curling up from the earth and blooming blossoms larger than they should be almost immediately after coming into complete existence. Some locations for these plants make no sense, taking root anywhere they please. Maybe in a patch of soil, or maybe on the side of a wall. Your roof, your bathtub, the very sleeve of your shirt.

Their sudden appearance may cause you alarm, enough to stay away on instinct. It's likely for naught, with just how plentiful they are. Smelling their aroma or coming into contact with their pollen is basically an inevitability. And when you do...something strange will happen.

ASPHODEL → This flower will cause the feeling of soul-crushing regret and guilt. What's the one thing that you regret the most? The one thing you would change if you could turn back time? It's time to have that thrown back in your face for the next twelve hours, assuming you're not exposed to this pollen again. In the case that there is no big thing that you regret or feel guilty about, it'll be some small minor thing that has been exacerbated in your mind by the pollen to the point that it is now a big deal as well.

CARNATION → After coming into contact with this flower, you feel a pull of absolutely clinginess that draws you towards someone you have some degree of fondness for, be it romantic or platonic in nature. There's this niggling feeling that won't stop pestering you, that you simply have to be in close proximity to this person. Hovering, observing, touching. Once you are? The feeling goes away. This magic tether lasts throughout the day, despite how your target may feel about it. If for some reason you can't be near this person, like they force you away by some magical means, your desperation strengthens as the proximity remains broken.

EDELWEISS → This one will cause you to become extremely reckless. It goes beyond developing or exacerbating a hero complex. It's like experiencing l'appel du vide for twelve hours and actually listening to it. You won't be very susceptible to reason without some magic to put a stop to you, and your sense of consequence? Completely out the window.

POPPY → Upon close contact with these flowers, you experience mild to severe synesthesia for anywhere from ten minutes to a couple of hours. Your senses mingle. You smell colours, see sounds. It often comes with a very mild sense of euphoria, but some find it disorienting instead.

GENTANIA → When's the last time you had a good night's sleep? A few days? Weeks? Prior to ever showing up here? Here, let's help with that. The pollen from Gentania andrewsii, commonly known as a closed or bottle gentian, will instantly put anyone who comes in contact with it to sleep. It doesn't matter if they're sitting, standing, driving or swimming. They will fall into a deep sleep, varying anywhere from six to twelve hours. For the duration of that time, they will experience vivid nightmares, and will only awaken after experiencing sleep paralysis.

IRIS → Apparently you're allergic to this flower. Don't worry, everyone else is too. Contact with this pollen causes a painful burning sensation. Don't scratch or rub at it, because that'll only cause it to spread. Washing the afflicted area or applying any sort of ointment or balm won't help. Tough it out. It'll only last a couple of hours.

The flowers definitely overstay their welcome, as does their magic. The blooms themselves will fall off and uproot themselves from their unnatural settings after about a week. The magic? It sticks with the plants for a whole day. The curse you're hit with might not last as long, but this means being careful: there's always the chance of being afflicted again. Maybe with two curses at once!

How will you know the curse is over? Maybe if you can put two and two together, you'll wake up in the morning and notice stepping outside doesn't...smell the way it usually does. The grass, any stray flowers, trees. None of them have any whiff of a scent.

This is the April mini-event before our bigger event later in the month!

Note that you can stack flower curse effects except for the Gentania curse that puts someone to sleep.

Carnations:

[Sora, for his part isn't aware of the particular effects of the flowers at the moment. So he doesn't think anything of admiring the cute pink flowers and savoring their scent. Except that it does then cause him to immediately go find one of his friends and sort of latch to their side. Constantly following them and asking what they were doing, hugging them and probably smothering them. The only clue as to why being the carnations he will say he picked for Namine because they looked pretty and he thought she might like them.]

Iris:

[Or perhaps Sora is distracted after finding the iris flowers. Causing him to scratch at his arms, removing his gloves in being so irritated. He knows logically that scratching is probably going to make it worse, but he can't help the urge. Which only makes his skin redder as he pouts at the discomfort of it. And of course it spreads to his neck because of how often he rests his hands there or generally rubs at the back of it.

This was going to be a long, uncomfortable two hours....]

[ Sora's not the only one who's been caught unawares by the flowers. Despite not strictly meaning to inhale the scent, by this time of day Naminé's already had the misfortune of coming face to petals with the edelweiss that's currently tucked behind her ear. And really, it doesn't quite matter whether she's the one he was looking for or not, because she's the one he's found. Or, rather, she's spotted him from where she's climbed up into the branches of a tree, and with the lack of any impulse control--

Yep, said tree just dropped a leaf on his head, aided and abetted by Naminé, you know, pulling the thing off and letting it go so as to make it fall directly on him. Judging by the giggles, it might be a good idea for Sora to look up, where he's likely to find a very familiar silhouette peering down at him with an uncharacteristically bright smile. ]

[Sora had been looking for her anyway. Having picked the flowers thinking she might like them. So of course he brightens, as always, when he sees her. Or at least. He does initially. When he feels that leaf, not at first thinking anything of it, but then hears her giggling. He glances up to see her....in the tree?

She didn't seem particularly the physical sort like he and Riku who spent their days running around and climbing and playing all over the play Islands back home. So of course he's concerned if she might fall.

That and he wants to be closer to her. So it's either she comes down or he goes up with her.]

Nami -- what're you doing up there? You're not stuck are you? Need help getting down?

[ His concerns are probably warranted, although there might be some comfort in the fact that she seems to have placed herself pretty securely - for the time being, anyway. No sooner has he spotted her than she's already idly stealing another leaf from the tree, looking pleased as punch to be right where she is. ]

Stuck? [ The word is mixed in with giggles, and though they have her characteristic quietness, there's still a strange tone to them, and she doesn't even try to cover her mouth. ] No - of course not. I wanted to be up here...!

[ And it seems she's climbed up for no other reason than that - although she's apparently making a game of trying to get a leaf stuck in his spikey hair, because another one comes fluttering down shortly thereafter as she observes, quite casually, ]

Besides, I can jump down.

[ It would not, in fact, be advisable for her to take a leap from that high up. ]

Jump? N-no. you might fall! I can help you down?

[Guide her? Maybe not necessarily by going up there but in telling her which branches seemed safest and best able to support her on the way down? He's pretty sure she isn't nearly as physically adept at such things as he did growing up like this. So of course he's confused and concerned if she might get hurt.

But also he just either wants her to come back down or for him to get up to her because now he's found her, he wants to be with her. Sora pouts, brushing off the leaf from his hair.]

That's the point, isn't it?

[ To fall to the ground - albeit with the hope of sticking the landing. She tilts her head at him, somewhere between amused and puzzled, and yet she gives a soft hum after his offer.

Now, in this case he's lucky, because even without any sense of consequence, Naminé still prefers to make Sora happy. So though she seems to consider it a moment, feet kicking one last time, eventually she says, ]

Well, alright. I'll come down if you help me.

[ Now he just has to be sure of how to do that. ]

Okay! So...um, maybe if I help by telling you where to put your feet?

[He doesn't have say telekinesis to be able to just help move to lift her down himself. So....yeah he really didn't think this far ahead in how exactly he would help but he does know she will have to come down eventually so. It may as well be with him trying to help somehow at least?]

[ Perfectly serene, she regards him with the slightest increase in the angle of her head. Her lack of worry means a lack of any incentive to second-guess him, and presently she agrees, ]

Okay.

[ Her hands depart from the leaves entirely, curling around the nearest branches - more to show him she's ready than because they'll actually help her. ]

Then-- tell me?

Okay, so a little more to the right....

[He directs her, or at least. He tries to as she slowly manages her way down from the tree. As she gets lower, he himself approaches closer in getting a better look to guide her down, ready to help her jump down that last lower point to the ground if she needs a hand. Literally offering his hand or just holding her waist as she lowers herself back down. Even once she is down, he's lingering in releasing her. Which might not immediately seem odd for him given he was a physically affectionate person usually anyway, but. Soon enough probably even she might click that something was up.]

There!

[ It's a mercy that she's precisely the right level of inexperience to take things slow, not because she lacks confidence but because she genuinely requires thought and guidance to figure out what to hold onto. She humors him with a remarkable amount of patience for someone in her condition, with only one or two close calls thanks to the less-than-ideal nature of her footwear, and soon enough she's safely to the ground.

She's still in good spirits when she hops the rest of the way down, relying on his assistance with far less caution than normal. It doesn't occur to her - yet, anyway - to think anything about his reluctance to let go, especially when she doesn't mind it one bit. Laughing gently, she teases with a hand still on his shoulder, ]

See? I'm all in one piece.

[ And here he was fretting about her falling. ]

Eheh. Good. You did it!

[He just couldn't help fretting a little. Wanting to help guide her at least, somehow. Since he knows she isn't as athletic as he is in having grown up running around the play Islands and all back home. Still, Sora doesn't seem in a hurry to release her with holding to her waist. Not right away. He grins, not moving to remove her hand from his shoulder either. He likes this. Being close.]

Well, you did help.

[ She reminds him with a touch of amusement, expression content. Without her paying it much thought, her hand drifts along his shoulder to the outside of it, an idle fidget and affectionate gesture all in one. But even in such a relaxed state, she's not actually oblivious to how unusual it is for him to still be holding on. ]

You weren't that worried, were you? [ she asks sincerely, brow knitting in a pleasant kind of confusion. ] It's almost like we're hugging, now.

I did!

[Sort of. As best he could from the ground and all anyway. Sora doesn't consciously seem to realize how he's lingering in holding her. He just subconsciously wants to be close. Is feeling affectionate with her now she's back down on the ground. Which is why he tilts his head, blinking when she asks and points out how close they are.]

You could've hurt if you fell and landed wrong or something.

[ Her head reaches the angle of a firm tilt, some still-conscientious part of the back of her mind running the numbers on what the probability is that he hasn't yet realized he's holding onto her despite her calling attention to it.

She'd be well and truly concerned if she weren't so easily distracted at the moment. Now that he's within easy reach, her eyes wander just enough for her to remember that she's always really wondered what those spikey parts of his hair feel like. Her hand's just starting to drift up as she admits an, ]

I suppose you're right.

[ And it's probably a real feat that he's managed to be more important to her than sating her completely apropos of nothing curiosity, because her arm falters and stops as she shifts her gaze back to him, accusing gently, ]

Still... you seem-- different.

Different?

[Sora tilts his head at that, either not seeming to quite click that he was still holding to her waist or he is aware and doesn't care. Doesn't care on the implications she or anyone else might make of it. And he doesn't thus make to stop her reaching for his hair either. If she really is that curious for some reason to try and feel it.]

Mm, [ she confirms, looking as though she takes some mild amusement from his obliviousness. Her eyebrows scrunch at him but her mouth is upturned. ]

You're much... closer, than usual.

[ And trying to explain it to him takes up enough of her consideration to leave her hand to its original purpose. Her fingers poke gently at one of the farthest out portions of his hair, and between that and the way he's holding her, they do look awfully cozy for a pair of friends. If anyone prone to gossip happens by, they might really be in trouble. ]

Although - I suppose you're always pretty friendly.

Closer? Eheh. Yeah. I guess I am.

[Friendly. He's never been one to shy away from hugs or such at least. With his friends. So somehow he doesn't think much if anything of this. He was just helping her down, making sure she didn't fall, right? And.....well. It was nice? He liked being close to her like this.]

Maybe next time it might be easier to climb with me. Or....like, a playground. They've usually got mats or softer areas underneath in case you fall.

[Not. That he's sure this place has a playground like he probably imagines like back home, but still. He doesn't resist or protest when she touches his hair, just closing one eye at it.]

You okay?

[ In her present state of mind, it's not so hard for her to shrug off the nearness, since he's shrugging it off to start with. Or rather, his other words catch her interest sufficiently to make her overlook his odd behavior. ]

Oh! You mean like what they have in the gym? [ She looks genuinely excited about the prospect, now that it's occurred to her. ] Those seemed so fun...! But I was scared to try it back then, because-- [ She falters, as if she has trouble remembering quite why one ought to be afraid of such things. ] -- Mm, it doesn't matter. I'm sure it'll be fine if we go together...!

[ And around then is when she realizes he's giving her an uneven expression, which causes her to pause. Not to, you know, actually let go of the spike she's just closed her fingers around, but she does at least still enough to give him a puzzled stare in return. ]

… Yes? I didn't fall, or anything.

[ Clearly that's the only possible reason she could have for potentially being not-okay. ]

Yeah. Something like that. It's safer, since it stops you getting hurt -- or, as hurt at least, if you fall.

[Sora tilts his head then when she mentions being scared. What did she have to be scared of when he was there? If he was with her, he'd make sure she was safe. That there was nothing for her to fear. Sora doesn't seem to comment on her fascination with his hair, but does give a nod of agreement.]

You did great.

[No. Even him acknowledging that still doesn't mean he releases her yet. At least, not unless she indicates it is that unwelcome, or she wants to go somewhere or something.]

[ As he tilts his head she relinquishes her hold on his hair, curiosity satisfied. Her hand falls, landing on his shoulder. It might also be that she's found something else that interests her more, because her expression brightens quickly. ]

Only because you helped, [ she admits, but that thought only lasts a moment. Straightening, ]

If you don't mind helping a little more - we could go the gym now...?

[ Her eagerness softens slightly. ]

Unless you're too busy, that is.

N-no, it's fine. We can go to the gym if you want. I can show you.

[Sora gives a nod of agreement, and shifts in then just reaching for her hand to lead the way. Which is at least less restricting and clingy than him holding her like that around the waist? He starts walking, leading her along before.....he pauses. As if considering.]

You mean the coliseum, right? I mean, I guess that's kind of the closest I can think of to a gym?

[ The girl's smile warms, grateful despite how she doesn't say as much. Her hand falls from his shoulder once he lets go of her, only to be clasped by his. Though she gives a small, almost-startled blink, she seems more pleased than anything else, her fingers sliding easily into place as they settle together with his. Easily she follows along as he leads, only pausing when he does. ]

Yes, that's the one...! That place inside of it is called a gym, isn't it?

[ She's a bit iffy on the terminology, really, since those types of locations haven't been a big part of her life. ]

It's the closest thing here I can think of to a gym at least?

[Sora answers, giving a shrug. Because it was true. Training there was the closest thing he could think of to the gym from what he remembers back home at school and such at least. So it's....close enough? Probably. It should have something more or less that should cater to whatever she wants to try there, with safety equipment available this time if she were to fall or something.]

[ Her mild relief at having remembered correctly registers subtly on her face, but mostly she seems as comfortable as she's been this whole time. ]

Well, as long as it has everything we need, I suppose that's the important part.

[ Her fingers tighten into their places amongst his now, a subconscious indication of her eagerness. She even sounds a bit excited when she asks, ]

So there's no problem with us going there, right?

[ Just to be sure their plans align. ]

I'm sure they will. I've been there a few times. Training, sparring with Riku and some of the others. We're allowed, that's what it is there for! For us to use, I mean.

[So no. There shouldn't be any problems. At least not that Sora figures. Unless there were restrictions on hours it was open or something but it wasn't too early or late so he doesn't consider that. It was always fine when he went before. He stays close, still holding her hand as he leads the way. Pausing when they arrive to glance to her in asking what she wanted to try. Of course intending to help her and stay close.]
