EVENT LOG: HÆIÐRS-MINNI

Who: EVERYONE
What: the Hæiðrs-Minni event log
When: November 16
Where: EVERYWHERE
Rating: PG-13; please take anything higher than this to a private log!

morning: the funeral

The morning sun is lost behind clouds that pour in an endless rain, casting the city into a dark and gloomy shadow. The streets of Asgard are almost entirely empty, although hardly a soul can be found indoors either. Everyone is gathered instead at the riverbank on the castle grounds, where a series of boats are tethered along the short and gently tugging with the current. The native Asgardians place gifts, food, and personal belongings into the boats in memory of their lost loved ones.

Whether you've lost someone, were lost yourself, or carry some other loss within you, the natives invite you to place your own offerings in the boats to send off your sorrows together.

Several hours into the morning, once everyone has had their chance to fill the boats, Heimdall gives a short speech honoring those that fell in the recent battle as the boats are let loose down the river. Honir fires an arrow towards the last one to float away, and Odin lights it on fire as it soars overhead, the single arrow splitting into a wave of shooting stars that strike each boat dead center. The boats alight all at once, and even with the rain pouring overhead, they continue to burn as they float gently out of sight, carrying everyone's grief away with them.

all day: the dedication

Throughout the rest of the day, many of Asgard's residents seem to buzz around Firar Samka, the cultural museum in Mimir's district. A new wing has been added to document Asgard's recent triumphs, but most especially to honor the unexpected stalwart allies of the kingdom: you, the Wanderers from other worlds. This display was added to memorialize the lengths you've gone to in the name of protecting and preserving life within the realm, the core purpose of Asgard in its entirety. You are heroes among gods and this exhibit seeks to portray that for all to see.

As you wander through the display, you might see childish drawings of familiar people fighting a massive dragon, or a large painted mural of solemn faces standing off against an army of ghoulish figures. Skadi can be found beside these, sometimes twisting them into eerie motion or placing a new piece somewhere along the halls.

Elsewhere, you can find Njord alone or accompanied by some human skalds as they sing or read poetry or even sometimes reenact part of the battles against the Red Death and the Army of the Dead. Your characters can watch or join, and they might even hear their own names mentioned among the reverence and song. This is the story of Asgard and the Wanderers conquering death, and you're right at the center of it.

evening: the feast

To end the day on a high note, everyone is invited to Nādhirhöll in Tyr's district, where the entire banquet hall has been decked out in so many colors and leaves and lights that it might feel like walking into an overgrown forest tightly held in the grips of a sparkling autumn. With the growing success of the distilleries in Njord's district, vodka and ales are passed around freely alongside the mountains of food available on tables in every room. People dance and sing and lounge around the leaves with laughter and a joyful appreciation of life in the air.

If your character joins the party, they might notice themselves feeling more warm and relaxed over the course of the evening. They might have the unusual inclination to be more physically affectionate with people and vocally declare their appreciation to them. Deep in this glittering "forest," it is easy to feel lost in the warmth and comfort of good company and relative safety.

This party continues into the morning of the next day, something that many may not realize as deeply wrapped in an artificial forest as they may be. The effects of the curse fade as everyone stumbles their way out of Nādhirhöll, leaving a heavy blanket of strangely warm exhaustion behind. It's been a long and potentially emotional day, but the city seems to be brought together under a shared relief and a new tomorrow.

[feel free to keep your brackets, i'm a hussy for prose!]

"Ayy?" Wei Wuxian drawls, giggling against Ye Zun's shoulder. "Am I very small? I am the Yiling Patriarch! The smallest...patriarch...boogeyman of the cultivating..." He trails off as his blurry eyes focus on the jar Ye Zun has placed in his hands.

"This is wine?" he asks, lifting his head with a bright, if blurry, grin. "It is better, but the beer was nice, too. Like baked bread!" He smacks his lips, turning to fix his uneven gaze on the hall at large.

"Hanguang-Jun does not like crowds," he says. "But even he must eat. I'm sure he'll be along."

sanityinruins: evil twin (can you keep a secret)

[ I'm just way use to it after all these years that's all :3 also forgive my lack of skills with Chinese I just tried a translation tool here. ]

"You are," he replies with a chuckle, nose scrunching as he takes a sniff of the beer. It was yeast-y and thick and after a sip Ye Zun decided he wasn't that big of a fan. "I'm Gui Mian, Bèi qiújìn de è líng and far older than you've been alive."

Despite at how much it annoys to admit that, it doesn't bother him as it would if he told it to someone else. Instead he fondly taps the younger man on the nose with the jar.

"I made an attempt brewing some chrysanthemum flower wine. Try it. Maybe you can give some to your Hanguang-Jun when you see him."

Wei Wuxian grasps the jar, uncorking it carefully. Master Ye has made a special wine, and he honors him by sharing it. Wei Wuxian takes a deep drink, sighing happily as the wine burns pleasantly down his throat, floral in its aftertaste.

"This is a wine to make a man selfish," he says, already hating the thought of wasting a single drop on another tongue, even Lan Wangji's. "But Lan Zhan mustn't have wine. Even a sip and he becomes quite ridiculous. He stoles chickens last time," he confides to and perhaps against Master Ye's shoulder. "And carved his name in a post!"

Wei Wuxian laughs and shakes his head, but his mind is too sharp to be completely addled even by Asgard's finest spirits. "How old is Master Ye? And is he imprisoned in evil, or is the evil imprisoned in him?"

Neither seem likely. Master Ye has frightening teeth, but that's hardly enough to judge a man in Wei Wuxian's opinion.

It wasn't as special as it should be, but he is still learning how to make the wine right. He will get the timing down once the process is perfect and then share what he could with others that enjoy it as much as him. Maybe he will teach the natives the proper method; beer and vodka were fine but they were not proper.

"I hope it satisfies Wei Wuxian then. My skills are still lacking in making wines in this place."

Though that was an interesting bit of gossip and one that startles a laugh out of him, eyes crinkling as he adds, "My brother also has that problem. One cup knocks him out. You'd think that he would be fine, but no, it reacts badly with him."

Glancing out of the corner of his eyes at Wei Wuxian, the corner of his mouth twitches as he thinks about how to reply. There were layers to what had happened, and while his brother forgave him, it still wasn't pleasant to remember.

"It's been centuries to the time before the Warring States - ah, before the Zhou kingdom grew in power, I believe. The evil is imprisoned in me."

"Imprisoned in Master Ye," says Wei Wuxian, his mouth dry despite the excellent wine. "Did it...eat at you?" he asks, struggling for the words to describe all that the Stygian Tiger Seal had visited on him.

"Hollow you and live in the shell," he breathes. "Make room for all of it and none of you, make you a...a husk?" He takes a longer, deeper pull of the flower wine. Ye Zun is too modest, it burns deliciously. "Master Ye, are you free of it now?"
sanityinruins: (noes?)

[personal profile] sanityinruins 2019-11-22 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
"It tried."

A sharp reply even as he took another, nose crinkling sip of the beer. His brother knew; the Hallows had linked them and showed them both what had happened and Shen Wei knew enough to realize that his dark energy took in more than just the essence of a power. Devouring instead of learning, but still it left it's mark all the same.

"There was a war, and surviving was more important. After. Well, after I managed to tame it to my hand."

At a high cost, but tame it he did. His brother had his own problems, of course, and Ye Zun always suspected that the Hallows played a huge role in how crippled they had been.

"You sound as if you had a similar encounter. Is Young Master Wei free of his?"

"Of its power," says Wei Wuxian, shuddering despite the warmth of the company and the wine. "Not of its consequence. I also chose what I did for survival. But it made revenge so easy, too, and in the end I couldn't tame it." There had been more than Yin metal conspiring against him, but Wen Qing is right. Wei Wuxian made his own choices, every ruinous one of them.

"I'm glad Master Ye managed to escape the same fate."
sanityinruins: (lost beauty)

[personal profile] sanityinruins 2019-11-23 08:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see," he says, shifting slightly so that Wei Wuxian could settle easier against his side. He briefly recalls how he and his brother would sit like this when they were far too young to be alone, Shen Wei's shoulder bony under the padding of his cloak but yet still comforting.

"I did cheat a little to conquer mine; I had been stripped of my flesh and remained a spirit for a time. It had nothing to feed on, thus making it weaker than my will. However, such a fate had it's own drawbacks."

Could he truly have a form after all those years? He could have been like the pair from SID forever a being of light but he cheated and found a different way to break that fate.

"It would have been nice if you escaped it in the end as well. No one deserves that pain, least all a brilliant young master as yourself."

[personal profile] yiling_laozu 2019-11-25 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
For once, Wei Wuxian has no clever response to that. Did he deserve all that had happened to him? Perhaps not, but he deserved enough of it that he can't feel truly cheated. Besides, he got a second life after the first - what kind of man would he be to complain about a chance no one else gets?

"Master Ye also died?" he asks, trying to understand that. Perhaps it was like poor Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen, the former doomed to carry the fragments of his soulmate's soul for the rest of his days. "When I returned to life, I still had my demonic powers, but the source of them was long gone. So perhaps I did escape after all."

[personal profile] sanityinruins 2019-11-25 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
There was a large difference between a just end and an unjust one. He didn't know the full story, of what caused Wei Wuxian to become so burdened, but Ye Zun was sure that such failings were not entirely on him. After all, if he was in a war and the time after, it was certain to have left marks in his mind that were easy to twist, especially in front of people who thought they knew better.

"Yes," Ye Zun replied, frowning down at the flagon of ale. A simple answer, but better than trying to explain the Hallows and what came before.

"Are you sure that you escaped the source, or was it only a parasite trying to use you for it's own ends?"

The Hallows had been forged by craftsmen that used fragments of technology of the ship and pieces of the stars. They could seal and heal and at the same also could strip and damage and control. Ye Zun may not understand them fully but he knew that they saw him and decided he was as much as a threat to them as the torn earth was. Why else would they have imprisoned him?

"The source is destroyed," says Wei Wuxian, though with a hint of doubt. He thought he'd destroyed the seal the first time, only to return to life and find it in new hands. "Destroyed and scattered, and I pray it stays that way. I truly tried to do right with it, but after my death it fell into other's hands, and they used it to do terrible things. Some artifacts are too powerful to be allowed to exist, Master Ye."
sanityinruins: (let's be reasonable)

[personal profile] sanityinruins 2019-11-28 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yin energy - dark energy - is always there. It's always there, created by the decaying of life, the deepness of the hidden underworld and the space between the stars. To tap that is to tap a path different than the broad golden road most practice."

His kind had lived and died in the stars. They came to the world already changed, and even when they grew underground, they still were a part of that rhythm and able to harness the energy opposite that of humans. A fact that his brother used in those final desperate moments.

Ye Zun knew he deserved the results, as much as he hated being reminded of it.

"They are. Forcing yin energy into an artifact is always madness or desperation or both."
yiling_laozu: (Withholding.)

[personal profile] yiling_laozu 2019-12-04 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Always there," whispers Wei Wuxian, his voice laced with despair. He doesn't question Master Ye. He's been alive for a very long time, and he knows the evil by its name. "It's not mistake, but a cycle." The Wen Rouhan, Jin Guangshang, himself, Jin Guangyao...again and again the evil took new form, caused untold destruction, and was defeated, only for the pattern to begin anew. The cycle should be stopped, and yet...

"Am I selfish, Master Ye?" he asks. "I've already given one life to Yin metal. I don't want to give it another."
sanityinruins: evil twin (no rest)

[personal profile] sanityinruins 2019-12-04 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
"There is a reason why yang exists with yin. Without one, the other is imbalanced too much and can hurt and harm even as it tries to help."

He would have laughed at himself given another place and time. But here he was, comfortable and feeling less annoyed. Ye Zun glanced down at the flagon of beer and wrinkled his nose. Maybe it was far stronger than he gave it credit for.

"No. It shouldn't even had gotten the first life, but I could understand if it was done in order to destroy anyone else. What Young Master Wei should remember is that he knows yin energy's tricks. Knowing the tricks, surely he can also attack it without giving it any more lives."
yiling_laozu: (But.)

[personal profile] yiling_laozu 2019-12-05 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Perhaps." Wei Wuxian takes another large pull of wine, then offers it to Master Ye, noting the wrinkling of his nose each time he sips at the ale.

"Grandmasters of the Cultivation world could not reseal Yin metal once released, only repress it for a time until it consumed all their spiritual energy. Does Master Ye know how to attack such a power?"
sanityinruins: evil twin (oh so concerned)

[personal profile] sanityinruins 2019-12-06 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
He accepts the bottle back, taking a sip and held it in his mouth, savoring the flavor before swallowing. No, not the right strength yet, but it will come in time. He hands Wei Wuxian the flagon of beer in exchange and looked up though he wasn't seeing his surroundings.

"There is a tale I've heard among travelers about a serpent that grew so large that it could encircle the world. An unruly thing, it would fight all that came near it until a god tricked it to bite it's own tail. If it let goes of it's tail, it would destroy everything, but because it refuses to let go, it remains contained and at peace."

Looking at the youth at his side, he adds, "Yin energy drifts and float. Yin metal is always hungry. If there is a way to make the Yin to attack itself forever, it would be easy to contain. The trick is finding a way to balance the forces so it will always be forever a loop just like that serpent of tales."
